If you're moving across the country, you might not be prepared for the amount of work that goes into it, especially if all the rest of your moves have been short distances. Unlike short distance moves where you can move in a little at a time, a long distance move requires you to get it all done at once. That can put a lot of stress on you. Luckily, there are some steps you can take to make the process a little less stressful. Here are four tips that will help make your long-distance move a little easier.

Label Your Boxes

While you're packing your rooms, remember that you're eventually going to be unpacking them. After you've packed each box, use a marker to label them. Each box should be labeled with the name of the person the contents belong to. This will make it easier to unpack once you get to your new home.

Reserve a Hotel Room

If the movers aren't scheduled to arrive at your home until after you do, take the opportunity to relax and get a good nights-sleep. Reserve a hotel room for the night that you arrive in town. When the movers arrive, you'll be rested and ready to get started unpacking.

Mark the Rooms

Shortly before the movers arrive, take the time to mark each of your rooms. Tape a piece of paper to each door with the names of those who will be living in them. The labels should coincide with the labels you placed on the boxes while you were packing. When your movers start bringing boxes in, they'll be able to match the boxes to the rooms.

Prepare for Those First Few Days

When you move into your new home, it's going to be a few days before you can unpack all of your boxes. During that time, you're going to need fresh clothing to wear and personal hygiene items. Instead of packing all of your clothing and personal hygiene items in boxes, you should pack a few days-worth of clothing and your personal hygiene items in your dresser drawers. Your furniture will be moved in first, which means the items you'll need will be right there.

Now that you're preparing for your cross-country move, take the time to make it a little less stressful. The simple suggestions provided here will help take some of the work out of your move. Contact a business, such as Warners Moving & Storage, for more information.

About Me
An Unexpected Move

My younger sister married an amazing guy a few months ago. Because they wanted to save some money before purchasing a home, they decided to continue to live in the home my sister had rented for the last couple of years. Unfortunately, they discovered a major mold problem in this home immediately after the wedding. So they were forced to move all of their possessions, including an extensive number of wedding gifts, into another rental home. Because my sister’s job keeps her busy, she knew she needed to hire professional movers. We learned a lot from this experience and I have since realized the great help movers are. On this blog, I hope you will discover the advantages of hiring a moving company to assist you with an unexpected move.
